How many times have you skipped a meal, not because you forgot or weren’t hungry, but because you thought that was a good way to lose weight fast? There was a time when I thought that would work, too, so I’d skip breakfast, thinking of all the calories I’d be burning by just drinking water. And sometimes I’d skip lunch too, so the only meal I’d eat would be dinner. Here’s what happened.
Since I didn’t eat breakfast, my metabolism didn’t get the jump start it needed once my body woke up. Instead of “breaking the fast” from sleeping, I just kept it going, except now I was awake, but my metabolism was still slow. I felt tired longer. I was constantly hungry. I didn’t burn many calories because my system was moving so slowly. I’d get dizzy, shaky and sometimes break out into cold sweats.
By dinner time I was ravenous with hunger, so I’d wolf down a bunch of food. I didn’t chew it properly, let alone enjoy it! I’d eat so fast and so much that within fifteen or twenty minutes I was stuffed. Uncomfortably so. Then I’d crash. My system finally got the food it had been craving all day long and now it needed most of my energy just to digest it. I would often fall asleep or just suffer for an hour or two until the food finally broke down. Doesn’t sound like a very fun day, does it? It wasn’t.
If you want to know how to lose weight fast, my first advice to you is: “Don’t skip meals!” Ever. Especially breakfast. Once you’ve awakened for the day, eat something as soon as possible. Something good, though. It’s better to eat a glazed doughnut or cookies than nothing at all, but try to eat some fresh fruit and sugar-free cereal or oatmeal. If you wait until after you’ve finished your morning routine to eat, that could be an hour or more. I like to keep bananas and peaches handy, when in season. I can eat one in just a few minutes, boosting my metabolism immediately, then finish getting ready for the day. Then I’ll eat more substantial food.
It’s also a good idea to keep fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts in your work place so you can eat a bit here and there throughout the day. This helps keep the sugar levels in your body more balanced so you’ll consistently feel more energetic and less irritable. Some of the power bars are good, too, but be careful when buying them, because many are just glorified candy bars.
So, if you’re serious about losing weight and want to know how to lose weight fast without starving yourself, then be prepared to eat! When you lose weight fast you shouldn’t have to suffer. There are plenty of great-tasting foods out there that will actually help you lose weight faster than if you completely starved yourself. And it’s much, much better on your body, your attitude and your family and friends!
